FAQs
Zinc
Electroplating refers to the electro-deposition of a thin layer of zinc
metal on the surface of another metal, known as a substrate.
Most steels. High carbon steels, or steels with high counts of magnesium or silicon can be problematic. This is also the case with “free-cutting” steels that have a lead content.
It is also possible to zinc plate cast iron and diecast zinc. There are limitations on what we can and can’t do with any cast parts. Please call us to discuss your requirements.
Any mild steel and most carbon steel.
Aluminium, stainless steel, brass, copper or plastic.
The plating process can remove surface rust and light oils. Heavy oils and grease need to be removed prior to plating. We cannot remove paint or lacquer on parts.
For car parts – the better you prepare them the better end result.
Tanks measure 2.95m long X 1200mm deep X 640mm wide.
Acme cannot plate items outside these dimensions. There is NO double dipping of parts.
This will depend on current workload and volume of your order.
Acme tries to keep an average of 3-5 days turnaround.
The electroplating process cannot plate “inside” parts. Like a bucket or tube shape, we can plate a few millimeters inside but not fully.

Acme takes as much care as possible with your vehicle parts – however occasionally something may go missing. We will endeavor to find it but take not responsibility for lost parts.
Acme cannot plate fuel lines or brake lines. These are often a composite material and do not plate well and contaminate the tanks.
If you have any structural vehicle parts or load bearing parts, these must be identified by the customer and de-embrittled as a safety measure. Acme has a purpose-built oven to do this and there will be an extra charge.
Cast Parts – usually brake calipers. We are able to plate these parts, but please allow 7 days as they require a change in the chemical makeup of plating tanks to run.
